Welcome to Hamster Genetics!
I set up this site in order to create a nice place where people could come, learn about Hamster genetics, learn the correct names and gene codes for a Hamsters' Colours and also to record Genetic Abnormalities in Hamsters, such as Chimerism and Mosaicism.
I hope this site will be of use to the Ethical Hamster Breeding Community. ~The site isn't fully done as of yet.- |

Sorry I've not worked on the site for a while. I have done the following today:
- Added Silver Pearl, Silver Dove, Umbrous Silver Dove and Silver Chocolate (Sable)
- Added in the Dilute Section, Dove Dilute, Blue Yellow and Umbrous Black Dilute.
- Reordered all mutations into alphabetical order.
- Dilute now has an "Agouti" and "Self" category with the individual mutations that involve Dilute having their own info pages. To access to go to "Syrian Mutations" --> "Colour Mutations" --> "Dilution" --> "Dilute"
- Extreme Dilute now has an "Agouti" and "Self" subcategory with the individual mutations that involve Extreme Dilute having their own info pages. "Syrian Mutations" --> "Colour Mutations" --> "Dilution" --> "Extreme Dilute"
- Created pages for Extreme Dilute BEC, Black, Black Tortoiseshell, Golden, Rust and Melanistic Yellow.
- Slowly adding onto the pages for basic mutations (Cinnamon, Rust, Dark Grey, Black Eyed Cream, Silver Grey, Yellow, Black and White) a list on what genes require them. Completed the Cinnamon list thus far.
Things I plan on adding
- More info to some of the pages that are lacking info.
- Trying to source the pictures for the pages marked with an asterix.
- Complete the basic gene mutation listings (as described above) [Will be done within the next week]
Disclaimer
*This site does not encourage nor condone unethical breeding and dangerous breeding practices. Any mutations on this website that are considered Lethal or genetically bad, for example, Anophthalmic Whites, etc. Have been either accidental or rescues from Backyard breeders and a note will feature on that page to warn people of it. The purpose of having these mutations on here is to document these mutations, especially the newer lethal mutations and spread information on how to avoid them and what they are.
