Dark Grey first appeared in 1964 in a line of Rusts in the US. [1] Dark Grey is one of the Three Greys and the first to appear. It's recessive and is becoming less common. Dark Greys are prone to Browning over as they age with some lines browning over as early as 6 months old. Careful breeding is required to breed Dark Greys and the colours made up of the Dark Grey gene.
Out of the Three Greys the Dark Grey is one of the most distinguishable. Unlike Homo. and Het. Silver Grey and Light Grey, Dark Greys have black rings around the eyes and deep dark black Cheek Flashes.

Dark Grey breeding note
The Dark Grey gene is linked with the occurrence of Tail Kinks. It has been proven to be impossible to breed away from Kinked Tails and as such it's theorized that the gene for kinked tail is on the same Loci as Dark Grey. Anyone who breeds Dark Greys will at some point have at least 1 pup born with a Kinked Tail.
Kinked tail can, in rare occurrences and with repeated Kinked Tail to Kinked Tail matings cause Spinal Deformities. No breeder is to blame if dg(k) shows up as it's a recessive gene on the same Loci as Dark Grey, it can hide for generations and suddenly happen.
