Black, like all the other Campbell mutations is Recessive. Black is very well known in Campbell Hamsters to fade with age and go a white-grey colour, called "Silvering" some are heavier silvered than others. It is currently unknown whether the Silvering is a seperate gene or whether the Black in Campbells goes hand in hand with Silver. Any Campbell with two black genes (Lilacs, etc.) will Silver with age. [1]

Breeding Note
Due to the silvering that happens with the black gene, it is very important to, at the current time, not mix Blacks with the Platinum gene.
